Our Church History:

In 1980, Sister Brenda Howard found herself without a church to attend due to some difficult circumstances surrounding the church she had been a member of. She had been traveling 20 minutes one way to church, but she believed that God could send someone to the town of Shelburn where she lived. This would make things so much easier for her since her husband was unsaved and didn't like for her to go to church anyway. She began to pray about God sending someone and she also did some looking around the town for a building. She found that the Catholic church was sitting empty, so she went there one day and sat on the steps and begin to pray and ask God to place a burden on someone's heart to come to Shelburn.

Shortly thereafter, Brother Roy Carmer came and started the home missions work. Sister Howard became a strong pillar of the church. They held their first service on October 1, 1980, in the old Catholic church. They named the church Revival Fires. They stayed there until a fire destroyed the building. They moved to the Community Building in town for a while and rented the basement of the Christian Church so they could continue to have services.

Brother Carmer left in 1983, and Brother Ronnie Nash came. They were still without a building of their own so Brother Nash begin to make plans to build a church. They changed the name of the church to Apostolic Revival Fires. They purchased the land the church still sits on today and began to build the little brick church with the stones in the windows. Elder Rudy Thrasher came to help them stone and brick the new sanctuary. (Brother Ronnie Nash had evangelized from Elder Thrasher's church in Paragould, Arkansas, hence the connection!) Brother Ronnie Nash stayed on as pastor until 1986.

In 1986, Brother Ronnie Nash's brother, Brother Robert Nash came and pastored the church until 1989. His last sermon as pastor was preached on February 7, 1989.

In the Spring of 1989, Elder Rudy Thrasher felt the call to leave the field as an evangelist and to settle in Shelburn, IN as the Pastor. He decided to give the church a new name and it became known as Soul's Harbor Church. He labored here from 1989-1995. Many souls were baptized and received the Holy Ghost during his tenure. He also laid the foundations for teaching on the home, Law of the Harvest, trusting in God, Pagan holidays, and was a firm believer in Christian education.

In the summer of 1995, Elder Thrasher once again felt his call to go on the evangelistic field of labor. He prayed and sought the Lord for the will of God for who was to be the next Pastor at Soul's Harbor Church. He wanted someone who would continue to teach and preach the things he had worked so hard to instill into the people. He also wanted someone who would look out for his married kids that he left behind. God answered his prayer when He sent Rev. Bruce Campbell to SHC.

Elder Campbell's first service in Shelburn as Pastor was June 14, 1995. Brother Campbell continued to build upon the foundations that Elder Rudy Thrasher had laid. He also groomed and worked with Brother Darren Thrasher and Brother Bryan Thrasher and their wives as Elder Thrasher had hoped he would. They learned to be submitted to someone other than "Dad". In 1996, Brother Darren Thrasher accepted his call to the ministry under Brother Campbell's leadership. Brother Campbell ordained him January 30, 2002.

Shortly after Brother Campbell came, we began building a school on to the original sanctuary. He was a man of vision and was constantly considering how to better the church. We began to have revival and soon outgrew the little brick church.

It wasn't long before we were in a building program for a new sanctuary. May 7, 2001, we broke ground for the new church. The unique design and decor was the vision of Brother and Sister Campbell. Twelve of the titles of Brother Campbell's most impacting messages are inscribed on the walls of the church. We held our first service in the new church on June 8, 2003.

In 2001, Brother Darren Thrasher felt the call to go evangelize-- with Brother Campbell's blessing. He and his family began full time evangelism in September 2001. They evangelized for 2 1/2 years before settling in Bicknell, IN at Jesus Name Apostolic Church. The Pastor, Brother Don Chambers was in poor health and felt it was time to pass the baton to another man. He passed away a few months after Brother Darren Thrasher took the reins. Brother Thrasher pastored there a little over 3 1/2 years until the passing of our beloved Elder Bruce Campbell on May 24, 2007.

Brother Darren Thrasher and his family were content and having revival in Bicknell. Never dreaming it would be God's will for them to return home to fill the shoes of the Elder who had passed on. After much prayer and counsel from his elders, he knew it was the will of God to return to Shelburn as the Pastor of SHC. The only problem was that he did not feel a release from the burden of the precious saints in Bicknell. So again, after much prayer and consideration, he let the church know that he was leaving to pastor Soul's Harbor Church. However, much to his surprise and relief, the whole church decided to make the move with him and his family!

For the nearly 20 years, he has worked hard to continue to teach and preach what his father and Brother Campbell had instilled into the church. He finished the building of the new church with the idea of fulfilling Brother Campbell's dream. He has also remodeled the fellowship hall and expanded the school, constructed the frame for our digital sign along with purchasing the sign, built a memorial garden, paved our parking lot and driveway, built a new shed and strived to have revival with the help of the good saints. His dreams and visions are still very much alive, and we look forward to what God has in store for our future!

In the last 18 years, we have seen some come and some go. We've had our share of trials and tribulations. Natural disasters from storms caused a lot of problems! One storm damaged the roof on the church, and one caused the fellowship hall ceiling to collapse before we could get the new metal roof completely on, flooding of the church due to torrential rain, and a fire in the fellowship hall the day after graduation in 2015! But thankfully God was with us and the disasters turned out to be blessings in disguise. We've had precious loved ones pass onto to glory. We've also shared in the weddings of our young and the new lives that have been brought forth from those unions. God has spared lives in the face of death. He has healed our bodies, and He's answered countless prayers. So, without a doubt, we can say that we have been blessed beyond measure! We are excited about the direction of the church and the revival that God has in store for SHC!
